Holotropic Breathwork™ workshop “Psyche and Eros”
September 16-21, 2017
with Stanislav Grof and international team of facilitators will be held in
Rostov-on-Don, Russia.

The workshop program includes theoretical part and Holotropic Breathwork™ sessions.

We are glad to announce a visit of Stanislav Grof, the founder of Holotropic Breathwork™ and world renowned scientist. Stanislav Grof is one of the founders of Transpersonal Psychology, author of numerous books and about 150 articles. Being Professor of Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS), Stanislav Grof is leading Holotropic Breathwork and Transpersonal Psychology training programs, he delivers lectures and conducts workshops all over the world. His workshop “Eros and Psyche” will be devoted to the study of human sexuality.
Sexuality is an extremely important biological drive that governs the survival of species and continuation of life on our planet. It is matched in its power only by the self-preservation instinct, the drive that serves the survival of the individual. Sex has a strong influence on human behavior and since Freud’s discovery of the unconscious and its dynamics, it has often seen considered the most powerful motivating force in the psyche.

In this slide-illustrated seminar, we will explore the observations from modern consciousness research that offer revolutionary new insights into the complexity of human sexuality.
These new findings revealed the paramount importance of birth and death as additional motivating forces in the psyche, as yet unrecognized by mainstream psychology and psychiatry. Birth, sex and death are so deeply interconnected in the unconscious that it is impossible to understand any member of this triad without taking into consideration the other two.

We will examine the perinatal and transpersonal roots of abnormal sexual practices and of sexual violence, archetypal dimensions of sexuality and transpersonal forms of sex (satanic, oceanic and tantric). We will also discuss the implications of the new findings for therapeutic practice.
The relationship between spirituality and sexuality will be illustrated by selected slides from sessions of psychedelic therapy and Holotropic Breathwork, alchemy and the history of witchcraft and satanic practices. We will also explore at some length Tantric science, art and ritual.

The workshop is designed to provide lectures of Stanislav Grof and 4 Holotropic Breathwork™ sessions where each participant will have 2 sessions as breather and 2 as sitter. The workshop will be held in English and Russian (with consecutive interpretation).

Holotropic breathwork, which have been developed by Dr. Stanislav Grof and his wife Christina Grof, is one of the methods of transpersonal psychology. It is based on 50 years of extraordinary state of consciousness research which was begun in the 1960s in Czechoslovakia by psychiatrist of Czech origin Stanislav Grof.

He continued his research later in the USA. Today he is one of world-recognized authorities of relatively young discipline of transpersonal psychology. Theoretical background and practical applications can be found in his books.

To induce altered states of consciousness, this method uses rapid breathing and evocative music. These states give a person an access to all planes of human experience, allow identifying the roots of our unproductive behavior, repressed emotions and energies, which are released and transformed in the process.

Psyche and Cosmos: The Emerging Synthesis of Transpersonal Psychology and Archetypal Astrology

October 2 - October 3
Top Hotel Prague, Blažimská 1781/4,
Prague, 149 00 Czech Republic + Google Map

For centuries the focus of many astrology texts and readings, and of the astrological tradition in general, was predominantly directed to understanding the present personality and predicting future events.  In the past century our understanding of the human psyche has been immensely expanded and deepened by the findings of the major schools of depth psychology—psychoanalysis, Jungian and archetypal psychology, transpersonal psychology.  The discovery of the unconscious, and the gradual disclosure of its deeper layers—the personal biographical, the early childhood and infancy, the perinatal and prenatal, the transpersonal and collective unconscious, encompassing finally the archetypal and cosmic dimensions of the anima mundi—have greatly enriched the astrological understanding, which in turn has shone new light on the deep psyche and its dynamic unfolding.

In this two-day seminar, Drs. Tarnas and Grof will discuss the emerging vision of cosmically grounded depth psychology as well as a genuine depth astrology which integrates these important developments.  Drawing on their forty years’ collaboration in research and teaching, they will present an overview of this new understanding of the human psyche and its complex relationship to the cosmos, with case histories and careful exposition of the relevant concepts and correlations.

Richard Tarnas, Ph.D., is a professor of philosophy and cultural history at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, where in 1994 he founded the graduate program in Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness. He frequently lectures on archetypal studies and depth psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, and was formerly the director of programs and education at Esalen Institute in Big Sur. A graduate of Harvard University and Saybrook Institute, he is the author of The Passion of the Western Mind, a history of the Western world view from the ancient Greek to the postmodern widely used in universities. His second book, Cosmos and Psyche: Intimations of a New World View, received the Book of the Year Prize from the Scientific and Medical Network, and is the basis for the upcoming documentary film Changing of the Gods. He is a past president of the International Transpersonal Association and served on the Board of Governors for the C. G. Jung Institute of San Francisco. His website is CosmosandPsyche.com.

Stanislav Grof, M.D., is a psychiatrist with more than sixty years of experience in research of non-ordinary states of consciousness. In the past, he was Principal Investigator in a psychedelic research program at the Psychiatric Research Institute in Prague, Czechoslovakia, Chief of Psychiatric Research at the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, and Scholar-in-Residence at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, CA. Currently, he is Professor of Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco, CA, conducts professional training programs in Holotropic Breathwork and transpersonal psychology, and gives lectures and seminars worldwide. He is one of the founders and chief theoreticians of transpersonal psychology and the founding president of the International Transpersonal Association (ITA). In 2007, he was granted the prestigious Award >Vision 97< from the Václav and Dagmar Havel Foundation in Prague and in 2010 the Thomas R. Verny Award from the Association for Pre- and Perinatal Psychology and Health (APPPAH) for his pivotal contributions to this field.

Among his publications are over 150 articles in professional journals and the books Beyond the Brain; LSD Psychotherapy; The Cosmic Game; Psychology of the Future; The Ultimate Journey; When the Impossible Happens; Healing Our Deepest Wounds; Modern Consciousness Research and the Understanding of Art; The Stormy Search for the Self; Spiritual Emergency; and Holotropic Breathwork (the last three with Christina Grof). In this illustrated seminar, Stan will draw on 60 years of his research of a large and important subgroup of non-ordinary states of consciousness that have remarkable healing, transformative, evolutionary, and heuristic potential. Modern psychiatry has no specific name for these states and sees all of them as pathological distortions (“altered states”). Stan coined for these states the term “holotropic,” meaning moving toward wholeness.

Psychonautics can be defined as systematic pursuit and use of holotropic states of conscuousness for self-exploration, spiritual and philosophical quest, ritual activity, artistic and scientific inspiration (“higher creativity”), and healing. The practice of inducing holotropic states can be traced back to the dawn of human history. It has been the most important component in shamanism, the oldest spiritual system and healing art of humanity, in rites of passage and healing ceremonies of native cultures, ancient death/rebirth mysteries, and mystical traditions of all times.

In this seminar, we will review the most important information that is necessary for safe and fruitful use of holotropic states induced pharmacologically, by various non-pharmacological means, or occurring spontaneously (“spiritual emergencies”). We will focus on the radical revision of mainstream understanding of the human psyche that is necessary for safe psychonautics – vast extension of the cartography of the psyche, architecture of emotional and psychosomatic disorders, understanding of the self-healing intelligence of the psyche, the nature and dimensions of consciousness, the phenomenon of synchronicity, and others.

Participants in this seminar will have the opportunity to explore these new principles practically in the immediately following weekend workshop of Holotropic Breathwork.

Holotropic Breathwork™ is a powerful approach to self-exploration and healing that uses very simple means: accelerated breathing, evocative music, and releasing bodywork in a special set and setting. The name Holotropic means literally "moving toward wholeness" (from the Greek "holos"= whole and "trepein"= moving in the direction of something).
This process activates and engages the inner self-healing intelligence of the psyche, so that the quality and content of the experiences is unique to each person and for that particular time and place. It can involve reliving of emotionally important memories from infancy and chilhood, biological birth and prenatal life, and a broad spectrum of transpersonal experiences. While recurring themes are common, no two sessions are ever alike.
Additional elements of the process are mandala drawing and processing in small groups,. Holotropic Breathwork is usually done in groups and participants alternate in the roles of experiencer and "sitter". Experienced facilitators will be available to provide support whenever it is necessary.

Healing the Divide: Men, Women, and Spiritual Reconciliation

May 27 – June 1, 2018,
Esalen Institute, Big Sur, CA

Combining Gender Equity and Reconciliation and Holotropic Breathwork—
to foster transformational healing between masculine and feminine . . .

This workshop integrates two innovative modalities to support deep healing of the gender divide in human society that stems from cultural conditioning related to gender, sexuality, and relational intimacy. Healing the Divide is for people who yearn for authentic healing and reconciliation between the masculine and feminine—on both inner personal levels and outer relational levels. The workshop features a rare return of Dr. Stanislav Grof to Esalen, where he co-founded and developed Holotropic Breathwork over a 20-year period.

Mornings will be devoted to Gender Equity and Reconciliation, a unique process developed over 25 years in multiple countries that facilitates transformational healing across the gender divisions in society. Participants will have the opportunity to share deeply about gender and sexual conditioning in their personal lives, working in same-gender and mixed-gender groups. The process engages multiple dimensions of group process in a safe space, including story telling, small group interaction, ceremony, and other experiential participation.

Afternoons will be spent in Holotropic Breathwork sessions, giving participants the opportunity to activate the natural inner healing energies within the psyche, bringing internal experiences that are often profoundly healing. Breathwork experiences are guided by participants’ innate inner wisdom, and are therefore uniquely tailored to each individual. Evenings will include sharing and integration, embracing key insights and experiences, and participants will co-create a special healing ceremony on the last evening.
