Holotropic Breathwork Workshop at CIIS, Institute for Integral Studies, in San Francisco.
This weekend we had a Holotropic Breathwork Workshop at CIIS, Institute for Integral Studies, in San Francisco with our friend and colleague Stacia Butterfield and team. It has been a wonderful weekend and participants had amazing experiences. I am so happy that my work is received so well and that we all could create such a safe and loving space to make that possible. Since my stroke I still have to adjust to new ways to being in the public. I am very grateful for Brigitte's support and about my loving relationship with her. It is so wonderful to share our love and the work with the world.

Thank you to all of you!
Much love

The Way of the Psychonaut" book and film launch in San Francisco

Dear friends,
we had a wonderful book and film launch "The Way of the Psychonaut" in San Francisco with 750 people attending and it was a very loving atmosphere. We are very grateful to Rick Doblin and MAPS and to Susan Hess Logais the filmmaker! The books are very beautiful and the film is great too. The books are available by MAPS ( Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies) and Amazon and we will let you know when the film can be seen and when the books are being translated into other languages.

Much love Stan and Brigitte

Holotropic Breathwork returning to its place of birth!

We just finished our five day Holotropic Breathwork Workshop at Esalen Institute, California, together with our dear friend and colleague Diane Haug and our amazing team (Stacia Butterfield, Mireya Alejo, Jay Dufrechou from USA and Javier Charme and Pula Guzman from Chile). We had a wonderful week and the participants had great experiences with a lot of love around us and we definitely felt the magic and the spirit of the land at Esalen.

Another highlight of our time there was, when I , Stan took Brigitte and the team on a tour down memory lane to the Big House (now called Murphy house), that was actually the place where Holotropic Breathwork was created and born in 1975. Christina and I were doing 31 monthlong seminars there inviting all the leading transpersonal and spiritual teachers and combining their lectures with 2 breathwork sessions as breathers per person/ week for the group.

I lived at Esalen 14 years and Brigitte came to Esalen in 1986 for 1 year, participated in 2 monthlong seminars and stayed as a work-scholar, getting training in Holotropic Breathwork in many of our seminars there before there even existed an official training.

So it was a very special event for us bringing back the Holotropic Breathwork to its cradle and also for both of us coming back to Esalen together.

Stan and Brigitte Grof

Dear friends,

I won't to let you know that my healing makes good progress due to the great professional speech training and to Brigitte's amazing love and care that I receive here in Germany.
It is exciting for me to let you know that the Science and Nonduality webinars that we recorded in 2017 in our house in California is now available. It was one of the last recordings before my stroke. I hope you will enjoy it.

Much love
Stan

In this 4-part video series, renowned clinical psychiatrist Stanislav Grof takes us through an exploration of what changes need to be made in the field of modern psychotherapy when we study non-ordinary states of consciousness. Through more than sixty years of research and study into nonordinary states, Grof has acquired a wealth of wisdom in what he has coined
holotropic states. Grof explains that in our ordinary state of consciousness, we use just a fraction of our potential; when we tap into these holotropic states, our realm of possibility expands exponentially. Grof details how and when these holotropic states are accessed, the types of experiences that people have when accessing these states, the striking similarity of these experiences to those described in the great spiritual traditions, and how to work with these states to achieve a new level of healing and transformation.

Module 1:  Radical Vision of Psychology (1 hour, 35 minutes)

This module discusses the six areas that require substantial and far-reaching change of our understanding of consciousness and the human psyche in health and disease:

  • The Nature of Consciousness and Its Relationship to Matter
  • New Cartography of the Human Psyche
  • Architecture of Emotional and Psychosomatic Disorders
  • Effective Therapeutic Mechanisms
  • Strategy of Psychotherapy and Self Exploration
  • The Role of Spirituality in Human Life

Module 2: Spiritual Emergency (1 hour, 17 minutes)
;;;The most important implications of holotropic states of consciousness is the discovery that the episodes that are currently diagnosed as psychoses and indiscriminately treated with suppressive medication are actually difficult stages of a personality transformation and spiritual opening. It is not an exaggeration to say that a well-integrated psychospiritual crisis can move the individual to a higher level of consciousness evolution, better psychosomatic health, increased zest for life, an expanded worldview, and spirituality that is universal, nondenominational, and all-inclusive.

Module 3: Understanding Violence and Greed (1 hour, 29 minutes)
This module will describe the observations from the research of holotropic states of consciousness that provide new insights into the nature and roots of human aggression and greed, and suggest effective strategies for alleviating the destructive and self-destructive tendencies of the human species.

Module 4: Cosmic Game (1 hour, 37 minutes)

In the nonordinary states of consciousness we look at the most far out experiences; in these modules we focus on philosophical, metaphyiscal and spiritual insights. We see far-reaching parallels with the great mystical traditions of the world, which Aldous Huxley called perennial philosophy, finding surprising compatibility with the revolutionary advances of modern science that are usually referred to as new or emerging paradigms

Changing of the Gods filming

Changing of the Gods filming in Big Sur, September 2015

Friends,
I am very excited about a new documentary film being made now called Changing of the Gods.  It is about our dramatic time of planetary change, the need for a radical shift of world view, and the extraordinary insight that archetypal astrology and a transpersonal perspective provide for understanding the events of our time. The wonderful John Cleese is the narrator, and it is based on Rick Tarnas’ book Cosmos and Psyche.
Rick and I began the research that led to this book and film some forty years ago at Esalen Institute.  We just did a week of intensive filming in beautiful Big Sur.
The movie is being produced by the co-founder of Bioneers Kenny Ausubel, and directed by the amazing Louie Schwartzberg (whose films have the power to produce a non-ordinary state of consciousness just by viewing them).
You can learn more about it all and how you can help make this film happen at the changingofthegods.com website.
I think this film may reach a wide audience and have a significant impact.

Transpersonal psychology coming to Asia?
by Stan Grof | Jul 15, 2015

nautilus

Dear Friends,
I have just returned from a fantastic two-week trip to China that took us to Shanghai, Beijing, the Great Wall of China, Jinan (the birthplace of Confucius), the Mausoleum of the Great Emperor Qin in Xi’an birthplace of China), and to the temple where Lao-tze wrote the Tao Te Ching. There would be much to talk about. HB workshops were sold out, lectures packed, and the interest enormous. We have experienced many incredible synchronicities; here are couple of samples: Jack Kornfield’s organizer and the couple organizing my journey, operating quite independently and unbeknownst to each other, scheduled Jack and me to arrive in the same city (B`Beijing) and on the same day.
When they found out, they arranged for us a joint program. Two members of our team buying tickets independently from the main group and from each other and in different parts of CHINA were assigned (in a train that had more than thirty wagons)  seats in the same compartment as our group and adjacent to each other. And now the most astonishing one of all of the: Before my joint lecture with Jack, Mrs. Meng (meaning Dream) was asked by her great grand mother in a dream to bring me as gift a stone that had been a long time in their family. To my astonishment it turned out to be the fossil of a Nautilus shell imbedded in a stone collected at the top of Mont Everest. It must have been older than the HIMALAYAS, As you know, after much deliberation, Christina and I had chosen the Nautilus shell as the logo of the ITA because of its sacred geometry. Transpersonal psychology coming to Asia?

Much love,
Stan
